An interesting day so far ....

Woke at 6.00 with it bucketing with rain and again at 8.00 with it blowing a hooley. Spent the next half hour wrestling the plastic cover of the cheapo (£15 from the Factory Shop) greenhouse / cloche back onto the frame.

Then took off for Stourhead (local National Trust property) where they have a reasonably good shop as Mrs O wanted presents for niece and nephew. Found the parking charge had gone up from £3 last year to £4, and then it swallowed a £1 coin without registering it so I finished up paying £5. Told Mrs O I was not going to eat breakfast in the adjacent café; they could stuff it!  Still we found two good presents, one reduced from £35 to £7 which mollified me a bit, but nevertheless, had to be forcibly restrained by Mrs O from filling out a series of customer complaints cards. Was amused to see a cashier in the shop arguing with an Italian couple (no speekee Ingleesi) who thought they'd been rooked over the change for their purchases. Sympathies entirely with the visitors. I won't be going back there again if I can help it, National Trust are a bit too keen on the money-raising ......

So we went to the canteen in the local brush factory for a brunch.

This was a revelation! HillBrush are a local firm who have built a brand new factory on the outskirts of Mere, where they produce all sorts of, well, err, brushes - by appointment to the Queen. :D Excellent visitor centre, displays and videos of automated robots stuffing bristles into broomheads, and a Full English for Ossie, Eggs Florentine for Mrs O for under £20.

Whistled round Waitrose then home to find the plastic greenhouse had relocated to the far side of the garden, smashing a large plant pot in the processs ....

Ossie, my mum used to say I was daft as a brush sometimes, but then I never had brekkie in a brush factory!

It's blowing a gale here! Nearly blew me over on the way home from D's, and despite the diet I am no featherweight! :o  Still, on the plus side B got all her washing dry in about an hour! ;)

Evening all, weather very mixed today, sun, cloud, rain and a very strong wind. I was up too early in order to get to my godfather's funeral, I drove to my sister's then she did the driving as she would be more familiar with Dublin's southside than I would be. We were there in plenty of time, but boy it was cold waiting outside the church  However, we saw the family which was good, and one of his sons spoke on the altar about how my godfather died. His wife (90 on Thursday, he was 94) was in a nursing home recuperating from a hip operation, so he had been moved into the nursing home too as there would be nobody at home. He was frail but well, although had failed somewhat in recent weeks. His son was speaking to him on the phone on Thursday, and was surprised that his father's voice seemed stronger than of late. They had a good conversation and after that, his father went out for a stroll around the grounds. Some time later, a member of staff brought him out a cup of tea, only to find him dead, seated on a bench in front of a lovely flowerbed, with a smile on his face - what a lovely way to go.

Afterwards, we went to a nearby shopping centre, had a cuppa and a potter around the shops. I bought some glittery flipflops and ordered a dress in Debenhams. I was very tired when I got home, but Mr Osc had prepared a lovely chicken salad for dinner. We were on standby to babysit for a while, but Miss Osc didn't need us in the end.
