Good morning Saturday

Set off early this morning armed with a National Gardens Scheme Open Day booklet, hoping to visit a place in Winterbourne Stickland, but miscalculated and found we were way too early (it opened at 2:00), so we meandered across country via Hazelbury Brian and Kings Stag to Piddlehinton where around a dozen homes in the village were also opening up their gardens.

Had lunch in The Poachers Arms (battered pollock, chips and mushy peas for Ossie, a mushroom tagliatalle for Mrs O) and then parked up in a field (lots of cow-pats!) at the edge of the main street. All very well organised, well attended, and the householders very welcoming. At least two apologised that the fish in their garden pools had been wiped out by the local heron! Bought some second hand paperbacks and three tomato plants. Not too hot (quite a strong breeze actually). We managed to get around half the gardens which were open; a very interesting and successful visit.

It was a shame plus it's a 1940weekend as well all jeeps and people dress up in 40s clothing and a classic car rally so people arriving for that our little country roads can't handle more than 3cars and a bus per hour
