Morning :)
It's been busy here!
I woke up to quite a lot of snow - and no heat
Ok I thought, get the kettle on and the pipe thawed.

Tried that, no change. The boiler light had gone out, at which point I got Bb up ;)
We reset the boiler and got a flashing blue light (should be constant).
Then I realised the pipe was still frozen in parts. Tip: If you tap it it sounds hollow when thawed.
So, three more kettlefuls of water and we finally got a blue light, then the green one as it fired up :D
Took an awful long time to get the place warmed up though!

Apart from that, a few of us rang each other and all decided not to go to craft, our little roads were already quite bad, and blizzards due around lunchtime.

No need to go out, we have food, milk and bread enough for tomorrow too if needs be.

Take care
x

Morning all

Well I decided to not risk it and didn't go to work. The way in would have been OK(ish) albeit quite delayed; but they've got an amber weather warning in place for Hampshire as of midday and that's where my trains home come up from. It's quiet enough at work and I can do some of the things from home so all OK. We had snow from 6am through to just past 11 and it's just starting up again now. So I've been out to feed the birds and pootling about and checking work emails

Had to laugh though this morning - the trains weren't delayed because of the weather, but rather because they were waiting for a member of the train crew for one of the trains and until s/he arrived the train couldn't go - so it blocked one of the two London bound lines at Woking which had a huge knock-on effect. Had I gone in I'd have not only had to wait for ages, but we'd have had 3 or 4 train loads of people on one train.

Crumbs Di, that can't have been a nice wake up; I'm not even sure which pipe I'd need to try and thaw out if that happened to me?

Fab news re your rain Ally - much needed x

Have a lovely day all - stay warm and dry x

Ria if it's a condenser boiler (as opposed to combi) there will be a pipe going from outside where the boiler is, to the drain. That's the one.

Our condenser pipe from the boiler (it runs the length of the garage down the inside of one wall) is well-lagged and also has a cold weather heating element that is supposed to kick in if the temperature dips below so many degrees. Apparently! Glad you got yours going, Di.

It's very grey and threatening with a cold wind this morning, but there's very little snow, just fine powdery stuff that's drifting in the wind and piling up on the kerbs. I've been out for a last-ditch shop before "Storm Emma" arrives this afternoon, and the supermarket shelves were quite bare in places - specifically fresh fruit and vegetables. Also long queues at the only 3 checkouts working, usually more than that, so I presume they were running pretty short-staffed today. You had to be careful around the car-park, it was slippy underfoot.

95% of schools in Dorset are closed today, including Mrs O's local primary where she's a voluntary reading listener, so that was good news in a way, no need to contemplate going out.

I've also filled up the bird feeders this morning and we've already had 2 blackbirds, a blue tit, a pigeon, and countless sparrers hard at it .... :D

I've felt like Scott of the Antarctic out there today! Got to physio on foot, then trudged up to D's via M&S for her favourite teackes, and also a bunch if flowers, as today would have been her Diamond wedding anniversary.

Not long got home. We are on the border between an Amber and a Red ( ) weather warning so I very much doubt pilates will be on the cards tonight :?

Well done Kaz of the Antarctic! MrsC and her sister went out for a walk up to the shops, she said she's never been as cold in her life.
They have to walk up a steep hill to get to the village shops; they were at the bottom of the hill when a bus pulled up and the driver asked them where they were going. He gave them a free ride up the hill and dropped them off right in front of the shop!
What a nice thing to do.
