Thanks all, he’s managed to break a bone in his neck!
We’ve been waiting for callbacks, Julie’s been speaking to them as she understands the terminology better and knows what to ask seeing as she was a nurse practitioner before she retired. He had a scan at New Cross and the results were sent to an orthopaedic surgeon at the QE in Birmingham which is where he would be transferred to if he needed surgery but thankfully it doesn’t require that. Julie’s now waiting for a call to see if he’s coming home tonight or tomorrow and Rog (bless him, he’s absolutely golden) will collect him whenever.

Maybe this might be a wake up call for him, he needs to slow down and do less but like you said Saundra, both of my parents like to be independent and feel like they’re being a burden if they ask for help. He slipped on ice a few years ago and we happened to call in a few hours later and he was struggling with his wrist. John offered to take him to A&E but he didn’t want to go, didn’t want to put John to the trouble, said it’d be better in no time, and it took some persuading but he did eventually give in and it turned out that he’d fractured it.

Thinking of you Jo. This is the kind of thing we all worry about. At least one of my sons is doing the shopping for my parents and looking out for them. He lives locally and his work is from home.

Hope the damage is easy to recover from.

Oh my word, I hope they let him home soon! It's my worst nightmare, D doing something like this - I'm always offering to do stuff for her, but half the time she insists on doing it herself. Many a time I've caught her halfway up a stepladder  :?

Sending my best wishes for his recovery

My ongoing vibes for your dad Jo - sorry to hear he has broken a bone!

I have (and I never see them as this as they are all so 'young' at heart) aging siblings.....my brother will be 76 next month and my sister will be 78 in May. Sis lives alone and I worry about them a lot, as they all are very active under normal circs….Alan loves his garden and I worry about him falling or tripping :(
