Good afternoon …. Sunny here, no breeze at all. We really could do with some rain.

Crommers, that reminds me that a few weeks before lockdown we got our regular Sunday Times only to find all the magazines and inserts were from the Wail on Sunday!

Late yesterday afternoon, I embarked on a massive shop at Waitrose. They have begrudgingly started to get their act together on social distancing; there was a small queue outside, but that didn't stop the old dear who simply breezed past security and straight in through the doors unchallenged  . Inside, they have taped stripes on the floor 2m apart, but there's no one way system, and by the time I got to the furthest part of the store where the bikkits are, lane discipline had pretty much broken down. That said, it was quiet, not heaving, so not too stressful. Got told off by the girl for starting to put my items on the conveyer belt at the checkout while the previous punter was finishing paying - I hadn't realised that was an offence under the new norm  . Anyway, I managed to get most items on the list, but not all; however, I did find a 1.5kg bag of self raising flour which was a huge unexpected bonus (only 1 per customer). It was a £113 shop which hopefully will last us a minimum of three weeks. I then subsequently realised, on getting home, I'd totally forgotten the potatoes …

Next to Iceland, my first visit there since lockdown. Everything properly laid out, and a one way system only round the store, reinforced by barricades of tea bags and pop bottles. That said, they were very low on supplies, and I thought I was going to leave with just a cucumber, which was all I could find. Eventually managed to grab a few eclectic and non-essentials items (more bikkits, a few tuna cans and a pack of antibacterial wipes).

Got home absolutely shattered.

Today chicken breasts, leeks, 1/2 a baked potato each (rationing imposed - see above!) and gravy, followed by a walk to the riverside. Yesterday, we saw a pair of mallards and 3 baby ducklings, but no sign today. Which reminds me Mr Grumpy next door (no relation, Jan :P ) is now frantically constructing the Mother of All Henhouses (or possibly a Duckhouse) in their back garden to keep the two kids happy. He did ask if we had any objections; we said no, of course, but I just hope he doesn't buy a cockerel …... How he'll get on with them, I've no idea, because Ratty could become a problem in these 'ere parts. :|

Enjoy your day, all.
