Something which goes down really well here is a traditional British trifle. The French love it and, once they took the plunge to try it, decimate it at every event Mrs S takes it to.

Worth trying.

Another one which goes down really well and is easy to deliver is microwave Clootie dumpling (Scottish speciality). Mix, put in bowl lined with cling film, microwave for 10 minutes, done. The French demolish that too.

Jan, following on from Suff's idea; what about baking her some typically English things? Victoria Sponge but done as small cupcakes, hobnobs, shortbread . That with a lovely card will be enough

I don't have any cake making stuff, gave it all away before we moved. Ditto bowl for trifle.

It'll have to be a rather nice bottle of wine with a thank you, written in Portuguese of course.
