The end of cash?

I've not paid cash for anything in ages, the last time I got cash out of an ATM was February!

Like others, my bin cleaner and window cleaner are paid by Paypal, T pays the newspaper bill every two weeks by card, my grocery shopping is all card. I can't think of anything I'd use cash for tbh - perhaps a car park when things get back to normal. I pay for all my utilities by Direct Debit, just makes life easier and I can stay in control of the finances a lot better. I never have more than about £20 in my purse at any one time.

The people who clean our bins left a note saying that they were not taking cash and could we pay by direct debit? So we sent them a cheque and told them not to bother in future. I know others who have done the same. Not taking cash would have been entirely to their benefit, and have been of no benefit to us, the customer. They could do their bin cleaning round much quicker without having to knock on doors for the money and there would be no going back for payments missed when the householders were out.

No cash handling is far more hygienic for small businesses like these, plus you don't have to think about paying them - it's already paid! They don't have to keep calling back for moneys owed, giving them more time to do their job - win-win IMHO

I used to get a bit embarrassed when the window cleaner used to call as neither of us had any cash, so I asked for the bank details and now I just pay when they've been by bank transfer - sooo much easier

When we go dancing it is always cash. I cannot see it changing. This also applies when I go for the paper each day.
Paid by bank transfer this week after having some more sockest fitted by an electrician.

Several years ago when I see the pediatricina and my waife has an aromatherapy. the lady said she would only accept cash so she does not have
to pay bank charges.
THere are other exmples were we use cash for small purchases .
Use credit card for large ones. Some shops will only accept debit cards.

I used to budget for x amount per week, take that money out of the atm and then just count what I've got left to know how much I've spent.

Same here. I get £50 out for my bits-and-pieces shopping and it has to last till the xth of the month. If it has gone before then - tough.
