Good afternoon! Sunny and dry here.
Up early for my first two trips beyond the Town boundary since lockdown started!
Firstly to Shaftesbury tip to dispose of the old guttering and water butt that R., our local builder, replaced yesterday. Traffic going up there was reasonable, but there was a long hold-up on the A350 just out of Shaftesbury as they're constructing a large roundabout at the entrance to the trading estate the tip is on, necessitating a 3 or 4 way set of temporary traffic lights. Next was the queue for the tip, probably about 25 cars, but that was because it had closed temporarily while they changed the large waste containers over, and compacted others with a huge tractor-mounted mechanical hammer! That said, a security firm has been employed to take over the organisation of the tip during the covid crisis, and they were very good, keeping people in the queue fully informed and efficiently directing traffic in and out of the bays that were open. So a relatively stress-free experience, probably better than the old arrangements when you were firmly interrogated by Council employees about what you were doing there before they even deigned to let you in.
Then to Sutton Veny in Wiltshire! Back in February, we'd left a small child's chair, a family heirloom, for repairs and recovering by an upholsterer we'd been recommended as a craftsman. It was supposed to have been done in about 6 weeks, but then the lockdown intervened! Today I motored across the Deverills to go pick it up, and he's done an excellent job on it. So the motor car has had a good, steady run out, and I'm now going to retire for the rest of the day, exhausted!
Mrs O has taken advantage of the weather to get a washing load out on the line, and is now cleaning up some of the mess left by the solar panel repair people. It's a pressurized system and it looks like there might have been a bit of a "chemical spray" from it whilst they were attending to it. It wasn't immediately apparent and it's taken a few days to show up on the walls, unfortunately …..
Have a good day, all.
