My hospital transport saga

Jen, that is just awful.... as a matter of interest; could they have gotten you home in a regular larger people carrier car ?

Example few weeks go n elderly man got a phone call from his dr saying a ambulance was book to take him to Scarborough hospital for an x ray ou r
Hospital was closed it was an afternoon
had no staff fella went to bed and was wokern up at 1-30 next morning by the ambulance to take him he refused just madness

And Saundra, same kind of question here.... why did he need a fully equipped ambulance to take him for an xray?

Ria, I guess it depends on the Trust(s) and also where you live.

In Leeds the trusts do have people carriers which go round and sweep up all those who "officially" need transport with appointments in the next hour or two; and a local by-law states that a proportion of registered Taxis (proper Taxis) have wheelchair access and can be used as patient transport.

Why that's not national is beyond me.

The problem with transporting me at the moment Ria is I'm non weight bearing and I have to be got over 3 thresholds to get in/out of the bungalow. They can do it with a wheelchair but it needs two people to do it. Also because I need a leg extender when in the chair they have to strap me onto a stretcher. All a bit of a palaver, I could manage without the extender, the journey only takes 10-15mins, but that's against the hospital rules so of course the transport peeps are bound by that as it could leave them responsible if my foot touched down should they have to brake suddenly etc.

Because our hospital don't do emergency x-ray you have to go to Scarborough hospital 23mile away by ambulance usually a good 4hours wait it's it's stupid but there you go nhs run by local idiot s they don't have the brain to change and they don't use cars for transport

That's really bad Jen. Sounds like you got the jobsworth crew even if they did need a break they could simply have told the truth. I try to avoid all forms of service transport if I can.

Mind you when you talk about NHS services. I was in a MRI on Saturday evening. Whilst I was changing to leave I heard the doctor talking to the Nurse and apparently they were working all day Sunday too.

Then when I tried to get out the doors were locked..... Mr Grumpy by the time I got out the side door and walked back to the car in the rain.

I can never understand by nurses do a 12hour shift
It should be 8 hours at the most
