I must be seriously odd. Most of these phobias mean nothing to me. I am not afraid of spiders, snakes, wasps, bees......

However....... I cannot do with pierced ears and the input of studs or earrings, I honestly do have to leave the room. I get that knotty feeling in my tum and a need to visit the sink.

Phobias ARE completely irrational though Frank, that's what separates them from rational fears.

What most likely happened to you is that as a very young child, most likely under the age of five, something scary or upsetting happened, and instead of you remembering exactly what scared or upset you, you focussed on the earrings someone in the room was wearing. It's called an initial sensitising event. So now, when you see pierced ears, you experience the same feelings you had at that time. Our subconscious minds are amazing!

I completely agree Kaz.

I am quite a fearless person in regards to completely bonkers heights/climbs/drops etc.

Many times I've posted on here and fb to have people say they could never, ever do what I do.

Fair enough.

But this mad intrepid climber has a massive fear of balloons!!! And dolls.(Shivering as I type!) I can cope with snakes and spiders...but put me within sight of a cucaracha and I could faint with fear! :?

And jelly! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Becky is similar Ally. She has handled huge snakes, and tarantulas, but is terrified of clowns, those very realistic vintage china dolls, and those living statue people that you see in city centres! Oh and teeny tiny house spiders with spindly legs! Yet tarantulas (ugh!) are fine......It is all totally irrational, and fascinating! I had a client once who came for dental phobia! Did a bit of work with him, and it wasn't specifically dentists after all, but a needle phobia!

Once they are in that's fine, it's the pushing them in or pulling them out that send me all of a shudder. Brrrrr.....

When Becks had her ears pierced I had to leave her in the jewellers with Claire and Hannah and go for a coffee and a read.  :o
