We thought that but he explained it all to John, he's a self employed electrician and has a high turnover yet only pays himself £10,000 per annum so he's avoiding paying a huge amount of tax on the rest of his earnings, charging family stuff to the company etc.
Get your head around this; he has a classic car in the garage, she has a classic car which is being done up, she has the BMW, he has two works vans and her twin sons have a car each despite only just starting lessons! Seven vehicles and that's before she's had her rainy day car.
They have another house in the village which was bought as a renovation project and a new static caravan at Newquay in Cornwall.
Our mortgage is our only debt too. Otherwise, if we can't afford it then we don't buy it. John said that other week that they were discussing debt at work in the kitchen over lunch and one of his colleagues said that as well as his mortgage he has £35,000 on credit cards.
I wouldn't sleep at night!
