Such a faff

I wanted to cook the last of the favas, for the freezer. Had all the ingredients and put me pinny on 8-)

Where's my big pan? I said to myself.

It's full of stew you dozy woman    and it's my only very large pot for the hob

So I've had to decant the stew, wash the pan, cook the favas and then wash the pan again and put the stew back in

Guess what I'm going to buy at the market next month ;)

Well...that livened up the ironing!

There I was, half way through the big pile of washing that dried yesterday, when smoke started pouring out of the iron

Oh that takes me back with the RAF to Cold Lake, Alberta in 1975.

The Canadians took us on a long weekend of kayaking and open camping on the inlets and islets just outside Cold Lake town. Eight man open kayaks with all the camping gear.

Nanooks of the North were us. ;)

How lovely the Portuguese are :Hi: :Hi:

We went to the bar earlier, as we were expecting something in the post.

Sat outside in the sun, with the awning out - the sun is really hot at the moment.

Odette came out to make sure we were okay with the sun on our heads - the Portuguese always insist we wear hats this time of year.

Bertalina and her husband, Asvaldo, live the other end of the bar - it's a terrace of houses, bar at one end, them at the other - and there is this ginormous lemon tree, which is full of fruit.

Bertalina is now having to use a stick, to help here walk, she's 86. She came over to say hello and brought a couple of lemons for us. We explained that our lemon trees are too young yet. So she went back and brought some more for us and Asvaldo brought even more

It's the absolute friendliness Kaz. I love it.

They've lived their lives and hard lives, tending sheep, chickens, and then all of a sudden, they have these weird foreigners coming over.

But with thought, handshakes, kisses, we all live together.

When Bertalina broke her leg - trying to catch Sunday lunch  - Asvaldo was so lost without her. Such a simple way of living, soon to be lost.

:( Someone else Joe knows has been killed in a car crash. That's two in the last 6 months :(
This fella was only 20, and a really good lad by all accounts.
