24 missing mid-teens in four groups of six doing the Duke of Edinbugh's Award have gone missing in the Brecon Beacons following downpours and thunderstorms.

Three mountain rescue teams and a Coast Guard helicopter are currently searching.

Reports suggest that 14 are now on their way back down (Mail), and they have a pretty good idea where the rest are. They can't land the rescue helicopter due to the conditions, but they are in contact (Mirror).

Oh God, that's absolutely terrifying - H did his D of E and the thought of this makes my blood run cold :( :(

I hope they will all be found safe and well, and I totally agree, why take risks like this when the weather is so bad? :? :(

Totally agree re sending them out.

I have been in the Brecons and the weather can change in a flash even on a good day. When the forecast is dodgy it surely must be better to wait?

The news say they are all safe and sound, thank God, but questions need to be asked.

My reaction too was that they shouldn't have gone, but actually, what was the danger? Not dismissing it, just thinking.
What was the actual risk?
Horrible weather yes, but not hypothermia inducing.
I suppose slipping in mud could be dangerous.
As I said, just pondering.
