Greed

Why is it that there is so much sheer greed nowadays - in all walks of life?
There are so many examples of it - almost every day. It never used to be like that.
but it seems that the more affluent we become then the more greedy we are.
My mother used to have a saying that sums it up - "Much wants more".

It certainly is a fact that there are many folk who are well off but still have to get
involved in deceitful practices to rob others. The newspapers now frequently give
examples - almost every day. It seems that you cannot trust hardly anyone now -
rich or poor.

Why is this happening? Any ideas?

I really don't understand it either, Aggers, and it colours so much of daily life now. The main example before us at the moment, of course, is Philip Green and the obscenity of his wealth while so many have lost their jobs. I also get infuriated at the obscene amounts of money paid for footballers

I blame the rise of advertising following the introduction of TV and in the plethora of magazines now available.

Adverts are designed to turn our desires into 'needs' creating a me, me, me; want, want, want; now, now, now society.

Does anyone remember the days when if you wanted something you did this crazy thing called "saving" or you did without something else for a while?
