Aldi schmaldi UPDATE

Useless place if ever you want to contact a store.

They are currently selling never-need-to-sharpen zirconium knives for £5. I bought the santuko version yesterday and decided that I desperately needed the chef's knife and veg peeler, so I went back.

Silly me left the knife in my trolley but didn't discover my loss till I got home, that is when I got into the no phone number situation. Had I been able to get in touch with the store immediately I might have been able to recover the knife, instead I was given a right run-around on Aldi's customer services system of press this, press that - "All our customer services... blah, blah, blah."

When I eventually got to speak with a human being he could not have been less helpful if he tried.... so I have emailed a complaint.

You're a member of fb aren't you Wm...this is where it can be useful.
Find their fb page and complain on there - companies really don't like that :)

I have since been back to buy another knife and the manager, Eileen, replaced it free of charge after hearing my tale. :Hi:

So another email was sent praising her to the rafters.

We had a good experience with their customer service last year.

Mom and Dad had a halogen oven from there. Dad put some chicken in without adding water and it burnt out so in the bin it went. A while later they thought they'd seen them advertised on an instore poster as a forthcoming special so they asked me to look online. I couldn't find them but I did find that the model they'd had was recalled due to an electrical fault so it made me wonder.

I called Mom as I know they still have the receipt for the pram they bought for me in 1969 so I thought that there was every chance that they'd still have the receipt for the oven. Yep. I emailed Aldi's customer service, explained that the oven had burnt out and while they hadn't kept it they still had the receipt and was there anything that Aldi could do.

Three hours later I had a call from a lovely lady who said that if they took the receipt into the store the manager would give them a refund, which he did without a problem.

Oh dear. I put an x on my hand when I need to remember something, then I spend ages trying to remember what I needed to remember.

Good to hear they got a replacement for you

Had an email from Aldi on Friday to say that my comments about Eileen the supervisor were being passed on.

Got another today from the Area Manager to say that he would be calling in to the store and that Eileen would be "rewarded" for the way she dealt with my complaint.

:Hi: :Hi: :Hi:

I remember talking to one of the till operators a while ago and she was saying what a good company they are to work for.
