Is this the place you mentioned? I've looked, it's made me hungry and we're definitely going

Yes, that's it! It was where Edward first heard the phrase "short stack" for pancakes which he loved and still uses  One of those places where you need to know what you want before you order at the counter, because they take no prisoners :D We were staying at a hotel near the train station (which is like something from a movie and even has a garden, or it did then) and were able to walk to Phillipe. Mind you, this was 1997 ( :o  ) but I knew the restaurant would still be there as it is an LA landmark. We were touring the US by train, hence a hotel near the station.

Just looking at it now....I'll have French toast with bacon please with maple syrup ;) Oh I do love an American breakfast, we have a couple of places picked out in Nashville, even though we will be in an apartment

That'd be what I'd order
I sent the link to John and he just called, he said we've definitely got to go there. Joe's looked too and fancies one of the beef sandwiches so we'll probably be going for breakfast and lunch (not at the same time)

Thanks for the tip, we'll be sure to decide before we order ;)

We've got breakfast at the hotel but I'd much rather go out and find a proper diner.

Brilliant isn't it Di! :D

The portions are huge aren't they Saundra. I remember the first time we went to stay with John's aunty in Niagara Falls and we came down for breakfast on the first morning and she'd been out and bought doughnuts - a box of 12 was sitting there on the table, along with 10 hard boiled eggs and a load of buttered rolls. All for us!

We were out one day and came back after she'd gone to bingo and she'd left a note saying to help ourselves to the lasagne in the oven. It was huge and I assumed that it was for other people too (her husband was due home from work and family were always popping in and out, plus she'd want some herself when she came home) so I cut us a portion each out of it and left the rest in the oven to keep warm for the others. I was wrong, it was all ours!

Oh the portions are indeed huge. We had something to eat in Hamburger Haven near Mann's Chinese Theatre, did fine with the main course as we shared a platter of ribs and wings. On the dessert it said icecream with chopped hazlenuts and chocolate sauce so thought that would be a nice classic icecream and ordered one each. When they arrived, there were seven scoops of icecream in each one  :o  :o . Once we got over the shock, we gave them a good go - it was hard work but we got there ;) :cute: :cute:
