We needed veg, so popped down to the bar, after spending 4 hours bending, stretching and generally getting grubby in the garden - weeding
Only to see the veg man and his van speeding orf down the road
So had a beer, as you do.
Jose had killed one of his black pigs that morning and the lunch (2.30) was pork liver, lung and other offally bits cooked in the blood And we were offered a plate of it
Had to decline (this was before we knew what it was - lucky escape )
Sat outside with a beer and Sergio - who is married to Maria Odette's sister was telling us - in perfect English - what the ladies were doing, over in the stream. With a step ladder. They were washing the stomach out and then taking the intestines an other bits. washing them again, in various herbs and lemon juice, then cutting up the stomach ling, washing it again and again - in the stream - and then putting it in a bowl, ready for the casing for pork sausages
So I had to go over and have a look - as you do. Oh cor berlimey!!! The smell!! But after a while, you could understand the method and the smell got better.
Just as we were about to leave, this woman came bouncing out of the bar
You're Jan, aren't you she said. Yes, I said, I'm Jan too!! Where are you from, you sound familiar!
Turns out we're both from Wallasey and the same age - and she doesn't mingle with the English locally, having been married to a Portuguese bloke for 40 odd years, but I now have a standing invitation to go to their house for a coffee.
