Really good value

At the Palma Restaurant last night.

Half a litre of wine, bread, olives, carne a portuguesa, which is huge lumps of slowly cooked pork, in a rather spicy sauce, with dices potatoes and rather bizarrely, cold pickled veg on top   , coffee afterwards, along with a English lesson for the new waitress ;) ;)

16.10€ :o :o

Pork I can't eat, and pickled veg is yukky, but eating out there does sound cheap! :D

That is very good. We'd probably pay close to that for just the bread and olives!

Makes me laugh what they charge in the UK for bread and olives - they're free as a starter over here and olives are part of ordering a beer. :D

I don't eat pork either Kaz...or lamb. :?

Sounds lovely, but we don't eat out very often, as they always seem to give us meals
twice as large as we want, and it seems such a waste. We've thought about asking for
children's portions, but don't know if they would do that.

Why not call the restaurant before you go and ask them. Alternatively - obviously depending on what you're eating - ask for left overs to be wrapped up for you to take home. Another option is to ask for just one main, a few sides and then two smaller plates and you share...

Restaurants very seldom say no to business and most I'm sure dislike food waste as much as you do. No harm in asking ;)
