Waiting, waiting, waiting......

Postby meriad » 30 Nov 2012, 21:36

I'm trying to sell my sofa and have advertised via GumTree. I had made arrangements for someone who wanted to come by this evening and I told her I'd be home from 6.30 onwards. Admittedly we didn't set a firm time but I really got the impression that this person wanted to come sooner rather than later, but it's now 20h30 and she still hasn't been and I've had no message from her.

Until what time is it acceptable to turn up at someone's house to look at something? I'd have thought that they should be here by now?

What do you think?

I suppose it depends when you both get home and sorted, but 9 pm would be it for me.

Yes I'd have thought so too.

I tried selling some furni on Gumtree - I had a viewer after several weeks of nothing, and she said she'd come on the Saturday "about 2". They arrived dead on the nose....didn't buy the furni though

I hope she gets back in touch with you Meriad x

Yay, about 5 mins after I posted this they called apologising that they hadn't been and was it still OK to come round - of course it was :)

They came, liked what they saw and left 1/2 the asking price as a deposit and are making arrangments to collect next weekend when they can arrange a van. I did drop the asking price by £50 but given that was the price I originally was going to advertise I'm quite happy. Even better actually as originally I was going to give it away.

I am very pleased and very relieved and now to hope the new sofa is indeed delivered before Christmas (one guess where it's from )

Thanks both.

Saundra, I know what you mean and usually I give everything away. But this time I couldn't afford to feel guilty. The sofa is still in excellent condition and I'm only selling because of space (I had my lounge window replaced with french doors which meant that furniture had to be moved around and there just isn't space for my very large corner sofa. I would have loved to be in a financial position to be able to give it away but I had to try and sell it first ;)

Ria if it was in good condition you did right to sell rather than give it away. I gave my dining suite from the old house away, but only because it had a few puppy chewed marks on the legs

If it had been pristine I would have tried to sell first 8-) ;)
