This really is horrendous

http://www.prociv.pt/en-us/SITUACAOOPER ... fault.aspx

Every year, we have this problem and the government either fine or imprison people for a matter of days

We're in the Beja district, so very lucky at the moment - hope I haven't spoken too soon.

If you click on Beja, it shows how many fires and where they are.

Maybe, because it's a Portuguese site, it won't work over there

what's the difference between the orange and the green (resolution / conclusion)

But quite frightening statistics if they're for this year only. Is that for all fires, ie building as well or just wild fires?

Horrendous is right, what can be done do you think?
Presumably clear big tracts to stop the flames spreading too far?

It is a good quick reference.... esp for tourists.

Just have a click around and when the cursor changes to a pointing finger or a fist go have a looksee.

Ria. from what I can gather Em Curso = ongoing, Em Resolução = resolved and drawing to a close, but still be aware, and Em Conclusão = concluded. I cannot find a better definition for the circle and triangle icon than the one given, but if you zoom in they are all on roads so could be breakdowns or accidents to be avoided.

Shocking numbers, though.

You're right WM, on how to operate it and the translation.

This year is the worst year for 10 years for the amount of fires and the acreage burnt.

The answer Di? More imprisonment for the starting of fires, clearing of land, stop the eucalyptus forest and if you must plant them, clear the undergrowth.

The fines for starting fires are minimal, the imprisonment is also minimal.

And people are still stupid enough to light fires in the summer, to clear the land. And chuck lit cigarettes out of car windows, glass bottles, even plastic bottles or any metal will and can start a fire.

Some Norweigan tourists almost burned their rental down up north, as they light a bonfire  :cute: :cute:

The fires last August that killed 3 people in Madeira --the arsonist has just been given 14 years--but i wonder if he will actually do 14 years,he may (hopefully) encounter a few problems in prison
