Miss Otis regrets...

...lunch is slightly delayed today.

14 years I've lived here...today was the first time someone actually fainted right in front of me due to the heat! :o

I left work at 1pm and was just getting to the corner of the plaza when a lady (I'd say in her late 70's) was standing there looking a bit 'confused'. I kept looking at her thinking she looked pale and by the time I got right by her she was just folding into a heap on the floor. :?

I bent down to attend to her..other folks in the plaza came rushing over to help too.

Someone must've called the ambulance as within a few minutes two paramedics were on the scene and (I have to say were so kind and caring to her. Yes I know that's their job but they were kindness personified.)

She'd come round by then and as they were putting her on the stretcher they asked if she could remember what happened. She said it's so hot it just got to her.

Just goes to show how the elderly and the young have to be so very, very careful in these temps.

Someone who was with the lady said she knew her well and would let me know how she is...the friend said she recognised me from sitting outside Jose's.

Amazing how even people old enough to know better don't deal with the heat, although your temps have been so high I guess anyone could succumb.
Nice to know how kindly she was dealt with, poor thing x

Your heatwave is certainly making the news in the media over here ...

Glad to hear the lady recovered. As you say, the vulnerable have got to be very careful ...

Miss Otis Regrets ? That's an old song from the 1930s.(I know dozens of them)
It went like this...

Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today, Madam.
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today,
She is sorry to be delayed,
but last evening down in Lovers Lane she strayed, Madam.
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today

When she woke up and found that her dream of love had flown, Madam
She went to the man who had led her so far astray.
And from under her velvet gown
She drew a gun and shot her lover down, Madam,
Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today.

Then the mob came along and dragged her from the jail. Madam.
They strung her up on the old willow across the way.
And the moment before she died
She lifted up her lovely head and cried, Madam.
"Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today".

(Thought you might be interested.)

Glad she was ok Ally, your heat sounds astronomical so I suppose even the locals will be feeling it!

Correct Aggers! :D :D

Although the version that is played (and sung VERY loudly! ) in this house is the Kirsty Maccoll/Pogues rendition. :D :D
