The Queen

Postby saundra » 14 Aug 2017, 15:55

It's being reported on news media that the Queen is considering to abdicate

I personally think she should she has been a loyal ruler and served us well
She needs her own time in my opinion
What do you all think I'm a big fan of the royal family anyway

I think so too Di! Becky saw it earlier, and told me about it, but I don't think HM will. I don't think her sense of duty would allow it, although I tend to agree with you Saundra that it would be a very well deserved retirement.

It seems that according to The Mirror and the DM that HM might be considering triggering the Regency Act if she is still alive at the age if 95 - making Charles Regent! Goodness me!

I suppose that at the age of 95 (the proposed date) she could abdicate in all but name and leave Charles to do most, 99%, of her official duties. It is a compromise which could work to keep everyone happy.

I wouldn't blame her if she did step down.

She has made an excellent job of being our Queen, and deserves a rest.

It is a job for life, and with ever so many perks thrown in - perks we subjects will never have.

The person to whom it is bestowed know what it entails and they are free to chose to accept it, or not. If they accept then they must be prepared to fulfil the duties that come with the position. If they refuse then they should become Mr, Mrs or Ms just like the rest of us.

Elizabeth chose to be Queen. It is her duty to be so till the day she dies. She might wish for Charles to succeed her,*in absentia*, for health reasons, and we would all respect that, but she just cannot give up because she is old and tired.

I do admire her for what she has done for the country, but I also think that she has to abide by the rules, even if she does not now like them.

I don't think many would agree with that statement, Frank.

Well I agree, because that's how it's set up.
She can hand over duties but being Queen is not a job, once you're crowned that's it.
