What a day!!

Postby Kaz » 23 Aug 2017, 16:30

I was just about to leave the house, to walk up to Sainsbury's, when the phone rang - it was Barclay's wanting to know if I had used my debit card in Dover this morning to pay P&O Ferries two amounts, adding up to over £350!! Well of course I hadn't, so they transferred me to the fraud department. They cancelled my card, will reimburse me, and were about to send me a new one, when he asked me again for my address, and then if I had moved house. "Not since 2012" "The address you just gave me is different to the one we have here" "But you sent me a new card a couple of years ago to this address, so how does that work?" "Sorry Madam, we can't send out a card to the address you have just given us until you go into a branch, with ID and change it"

Soooo I dug out my passport, found a bill with both our names on - it's a joint account - and went to town! Got as far as the queue in the bank, rummaged in my bag for the documents - no sign of my passport! :o :( Rang Mick in a bit of a panic, thinking I'd lost it somehow, but Mick had found it - on the shelf in our downstairs loo!! :cute:  I know, dozy moo or what!!!

So it was a wasted trip to town, but at least I hadn't lost my passport after all   I have to go into town again in the morning anyway, for an eye test, so will go to the bank then.

On the plus side I walked through H&M (a shortcut back from the bank :P ) and picked up a lovely black halterneck dress for our holiday! The label said £5, but when I got to the till it came up as £3.50! :o :D So the day wasn't all bad

Good job the bank rang you , but also what are they doing, not changing the address.

Then again, Barclays :cute: :cute: :cute: Been with them for almost 40 years and I'm sure they're getting worse :cute: :cute:

Well done on the top though

Blimey Kaz!

When we lived in London £1600 was 'apparently' withdrawn from Don's account by someone at a Lloyd's cashpoint on Kensington high street. :o :o :o

Given Don was running a pub right by the stock exchange it was impossible that he had made the withdrawal.

Lloyd's then 'gently suggested' the money might have been withdrawn by his wife! :o :o

Given I was working at a private dental practice on Baker street that wasn't right either!

Lloyd's were adamant one of us had made the withdrawal (these were the days before CCTV) but thank goodness we both could verify where we were at the exact times of the transactions.

Lloyd's were quite sh*tty about the whole thing to be honest....it was only when Don mentioned going to an ombudsman to kick up a right fuss that suddenly the money was paid straight back into his account!

Di that crossed my mind at first, in fact I went upstairs and gestured to Mick to pick up and listen in, but it was definitely them! If they had asked me for my password I would have been onto that like a shot!

Crikey Ally, what a good job you could both prove your whereabouts!! :?

Osc ;)

Jan it did seem a bit daft!

Oh good grief, Kaz - not nice.

There was a feature about bank fraud on some radio programme this morning, a bit of which I overheard in the local ironmongers here. They cited the case of a chap who had been defrauded and the fraudsters had managed to get his "address" changed, using a postal redirection form, to get stuff delivered which they'd ordered on his card. The Royal Mail sounded surprisingly half-baked about it.

They're useless aren't they! Remember that mither we had with John's card earlier this year (or was it late last year now?). He went to pay for something and had his card declined because it had expired and he hadn't realised because a new one hadn't arrived. When we spoke to Barclays they'd sent it to our old address despite us changing it when we moved and he'd actually received a couple of new cards at the new house, it's a joint account though and they hadn't meddled with my address just his!
