Smile Stones

Anyone heard of these? They've been appearing on my Facebook timeline for the last few weeks. People paint designs on stones, stick a label on the back with the name of the Facebook page and their smile stone nickname and then hide them somewhere. If you find one then you photograph it, upload the pic to the Facebook page along with the painter's nickname and then rehide the stone and hopefully it's journey around the country, or even the world, can be followed.

I found one this morning whilst out with Billy! The name is correct, you really do smile when you find one! I've got to think of somewhere to hide it now. We've got a few days out planned so I might hold onto to it and hide it further afield in a couple of weeks.

Good aren't they Jo, if you're going into Birmingham take it with you to hide :)
A friend of mine and her son, both artists, do art abandonment. Tiny pictures, painted pebbles, all sorts.
They're just to bring a smile, they have a little message saying pick me up and take me home :) people can post where they found them too.
She leaves them all over, park benches, hospital loos... :D

Cor, that's as old as the hills, but good fun. We used to do a similar thing as kids.

The idea was to paint a stone and put your name and address on the back and whoever found it would send you a postcard. They would then take it somewhere else and the new finder would do the same... and on it went.

Jo, your avatar. It's a cracker, but I have a feeling I have seen it before. True, or a false memory?

It was a fad here for about 2 weeks earlier this year. But they didn't have a sticker on the back. That would have given them purpose. I like that idea. Might have got paint a rock.

It's not something we ever did as children, or when Tom and Joe were younger either. If I had any artistic skills I'd paint some myself.

We didn't make it into Birmingham after all so that was out, might force myself up to Manchester sometime soon Ossie

Frank, I did put it on Facebook but similar could also be seen in various national news outlets and magazines   I always dreamt that one of my boys would appear in the official United magazine, except in my dreams it involved signing for millions rather than being photographed with a former player
