Remember the old style coins are no longer legal tender from 15th October!

So now is the time - empty all your pockets and purses, strip your sofas and chairs, smash your piñatas, turn out all the cupboards and tins you hoard things in, check your car ..... you know you've got some out there somewhere!

Ossie is now playing "pass the parcel" - any old coins received in change get immediately recycled .... how on earth shopkeepers are going to rigorously differentiate between the old and the new versions after the deadline day, I've no idea.

I know ossie I always saved some for grandchildren xmas money but haven't this year why can't things be left alone

Here the Isle of Man government cannot afford to change our £1 coins and all the associated machines etc that use them.

SO............. How long till the island is flooded with old English £1 coins??? not to mention all the forgeries???

I can see loads of problems for us unless the uk government agrees to take them all off us and recompense us for loss till we change over here??

I shouldn't worry too much about it.

If you do come across any old £1 coins after October 15th,
you can always get them changed for new ones at any Bank,
so I understand.

When I took some £1 coins in to Lloyds to be changed she said to make sure you get them in by the deadline

Saundra, when we went to Salisbury Hospital recently, none of their pay machines in the car park would accept the new fivers. Everybody was getting caught out; the machines kept on spitting the notes back out again.

And subsequently I heard it was exactly the same at Yeovil Hospital ....

I either give them£ 5-00notes as part of a taxi fair
Give them to the grandchildren as pocket money
Or the boys towards petrol money when they come

I don't mind the new notes but they're a bit 'springy' if you fold them up. I've always just folded and shoved a fiver in the coin section of my purse when I've had one in change but the new ones won't stay folded very well.

I had John check his wallet yesterday for old pounds and he had one so Joe's taken it for his bus fare today.

Got another in change this morning so spent it on stamps in the post office.

I was given 4 old £1 coins in change in a café last week! I spent them at the pie hut at Woking FC on Saturday ... their problem now!

The old £10 note's still valid until Spring 2018 apparently, so no need to panic on that score yet .....
