Ok won't be starting the daily thread again, but wanted to tell you about our lovely day before I forget it all.
We've had a super day for Mr Osc's birthday. We were up at 5.30am as we wanted to be at the White House in plenty of time for our 8am time slot, in fact we were standing in line by 7.30am. Never saw the man from the embassy although I got an email from the embassy later on asking if we had been there - well, he never came looking for us even though I kept checking for an embassy type standing around. However, our details were obviously on the list as we got in anyway by showing our passports. Security took 25 minutes, but then we were free to wander around at our own pace. It's a lovely building, beautiful rooms but not massively ornate, we really enjoyed ourselves. We had had little to eat or drink as there are no restrooms available for people on the tour, so when finished we crossed the street to a very old Washington restaurant that we had read about, to treat ourselves to a nice breakfast.
While we were waiting for our table, I asked the hostess for the wifi code, part of it was the date and I casually remarked that it was my hubby's birthday. When we were seated, she arrived over with a little card wishing him a happy birthday! We tucked into a gorgeous breakfast, followed by sharing a French toast and were relaxing over our cups of tea/coffee when the waitress arrived with their signature dessert and a candle in it with Happy Birthday written on the plate! We valiantly ate our way through it, it was gorgeous, not had ice cream for breakfast before
We staggered back to the Metro and our apartment where we fell into bed for a rest. Then out again in the afternoon to the Capitol building, where we ended up at the Senate which was in session, and also looked at the wonderful Library of Congress, a gorgeous building. Stroll back via the supermarket to get something for dinner and resting our feet again this evening.
Off to Boston tomorrow, eight hour train journey, looking forward to it. Staying with a friend there so I might not be here so much.
