Then and now

Postby Osc » 18 Oct 2017, 20:05

20 years ago, we toured America by train coast to coast and loved it. Of course, there were no mobile phones, no ipad, no free wifi.

Today however, we have been tracking our route, I've been on FB and Twitter, Mr Osc has been chatting to Michael on WhatsApp (sample - Kellie is in the bath saying the prayers she learned in playschool, they never taught me prayers in playschool  ), they were discussing football too and Mr Osc is keeping tabs on the ManU-v-Benfica match. I have not read one page of my book....which is also on my ipad :D

It's lovely to keep in touch but there is no conning home and telling everyone what you saw what you did the places you went waiting for the photos back from boots because they already know where you've been what you've done and seen the photos plus no photo albums to look back at

Amazing isn't it!

Our kids don't remember a time when we didn't have internet in the house or mobile phones. Tom was one when we got internet and three when I got my first mobile but John had one before that for work. Joe thinks it's funny how I marvel about how I can order something at lunchtime and have it delivered early evening by Amazon Prime. He has no concept of sending an order form in by post and then waiting up to 28 days for delivery

"Then and now" is a fascinating subject, even more so when you get to my age.

When I look back to my childhood in the 20's and 30's, I can hardly believe the
multitude of things that we didn't have then, but which we take for granted now.

Yes, technology is a boon, Kaz, but it has it's downside too. No doubt, in time,
solutions will be found for many of these inherent disadvantages.
