Brave soldiers...

Postby Ally » 12 Nov 2017, 19:06

...no matter what regiment. What war. Or why.

So important we remember these brave heroic souls.

50 years tomorrow Don's brother Edward was killed in Vietnam.

He will never be forgotten. Tonight there has been much talk between Don and Ed (Edwards's nephew. It was Ed's birthday yesterday and he was named after Edward.)

Only 22 when he was killed.

God rest them all. xx

God rest them all, indeed.

Sailors too, including my great grandad, Able Seaman Herbert James Richardson, drowned at sea in October 1914 on HMS Hawke, aged 35, leaving a wife who died not long afterwards, and two infant children orphaned - including my lovely Nan, to be raised separately by maiden aunts :(

All so brave :(

I always think of my Dad's cousin's husband, Ken, with great sadness. He was killed in action in France during WW2. Evelyn, my Dad's cousin (she was always Aunty Ev to me) was pregnant at the time and their son, also Ken, obviously never knew his father but having seen photos he's the absolute image of him. Evelyn never remarried.
