We have a tradition in our house that one leaves 'hints' as to what one would like 'Santa' to bring them.

Earlier today I left a sheet of paper on the kitchen table with the word 'BOOKS' written at the top and the names Stamp, Sher & Wood.

Don's just noticed it and asked if I'm studying for a secret law degree as those names sounded like a firm of solicitors!

Don's got a point though!

What am I missing from the OP?

With "hints" like that it is no wonder nobody ever gets the pressie they wanted from the men of this world.

We do get the finger in the chest, the magazine page and the words "I want this on C morning, say "Yes" if you understand, got it?"

But my hubadub does get the point! He saw the word Books and twigged.

I marched Mick into Osprey this lunchtime, he bought me my Christmas present while I pretended not to notice, and he's now "hidden" it until Christmas Incredibly unsubtle, but subtle nearly got me a wok for our first married Christmas, so it works for us!

We always discuss what main presents we are going to buy each other, and usually buy them together.
That way, there may be no surprises, but there are never any disappointments.

However, we also buy a number of little secret presents, one for each morning of the Christmas period.
This is great fun, and I can certainly recommend it.

Aggers, I love your idea of small little presents for the Chrismas days... from when to when do you consider it, the 12 days or just a few? I think that's really clever and lovely

We don't do vast amounts - I always buy for Thomas and Amelia and I always get a calendar from them. We do a Secret Santa for the adults we're spending Christmas with so everyone buys a gift for one person only - and we do that Secret Santa exchange on Christmas Eve (which is 'my' Christmas). Karl and Nadine do more for themselves as a family and they have Christmas day morning to themselves; and then I pop over there for about 1 or 2 ish for Christmas lunch - so a relaxed time all round

Karl and Nadine certainly partake in the 'hints' bit in the run up - only way it works

The twelve days. We only buy small novelty presents - what my wife calls 'cracker presents'.
It really is a very happy thing to do, and we love it.
