A snowflake landed on the arm of a young child playing Regent's Park sparking countrywide panic. An emergency meeting of COBRA was held where the decision was taken to close all roads, railways, runways, schools, ferries, hospitals and McDonald's.

Honestly, we are rubbish with snow. If the Seychelles declare war we are done for.

Frank, just because you haven't got any where you are doesn't mean that other places are overreacting. It's about a foot deep here and still coming down. It doesn't help being a Sunday because there's far less traffic on the roads to help keep them clear.

Some LEAs around here have already said that schools will be closed tomorrow. That's great, very sensible. An early decision will help parents make plans for tomorrow, something that isn't as easy when you suddenly find out at 7.30am that there's no school that day.

And we are rubbish in this country if Europe can deal with snow why can't UK do they close schools and grinde to a Holt no they don't because UK has become a nanny state

I know that some places have been hit with more than a dusting, but the way the media is going on you would think the whole country was under a metre of snow!

I think part of the problem here is that it doesn't happen regularly each winter. So people don't have snow tyres, and councils are often not geared up for it....

I'm sorry but the schools closing infuriates me. How are working parents, that dont work in schools supposed to manage?

Luke has two people on tomorrow both have school age children. Both happy to work but if schools are closed they are stuck, but they don’t get paid if they don’t turn in

I have to get to work, I can just imagine the fuss if people wanting a doctors appointment were told sorry we are closed.

I think teachers should report to their nearest school and parents should be told there will be no educating done and if you want to keep your children at home feel free to do so, but we will offer a caring facility for those of you that have to work. I have never had a day off due to snow, when I worked in school I walked there. I walked past the houses of the teachers that couldn't get there, funny that

Yes, was speaking to my S this afternoon; she lives in a West Birmingham suburb. She woke up to about 6" of snow, put on her wellies, and (as is her usual practice) stomped the 2 miles or so to the church she attends in Harborne for the 11:00. She got there as the 9:30 service was just concluding (late) and was told the rest of the day's services had been cancelled. So she had to turn around and stomp the 2 miles back! I asked her if she could have got the regular bus back home, and she said that she never saw any buses - looked like none were running on any of the routes today .....
