Hibernating!

Our boiler has been playing up a bit since Wednesday, and an engineer is booked to come out tomorrow - luckily, as it turns out, as we got home this afternoon to a very cold house and no hot water!

We have an immersion heater, which takes care of showering in the morning, but it's been soooo cold! The fire in the living room is electric and blows out hot air, but hardly seemed to make any difference, so we've had hot water bottles, and DGs on over our clothes! We came to bed early, it's warmer!

I can't believe that I've got so soft! I grew up in a house where the only heat was a fire in the living room, and occasionally either a paraffin heater or plug-in electric fire in the bedroom if we were ill, or it was exceptionally cold! :cute:

I think we have all gone soft.
We had no central heating when the kids were born only paraffin heater and open fire.
Don made an airing cupboard for the nappies and baby clothes with a "Peter the Heater"(anyone remember)
Remember waking up to frost on the inside of the bedroom windows.
If it was extremely cold we put coats etc on the babies beds.
Water was heated in a kettle.
We all survived.

Oh dear, Kaz.

What a time for it to stop working. Sods law, isn't it?

You mentioning the old days reminded me of when I was a lad. As you say, the only heating was the living room coal fire, and
before we got into bed, mother used to heat up a metal oven plate in the gas oven and pop that into my bed. We managed,
but I used to get chilblains, which I got relief from by taking off my socks and rubbing my toes on the coconut matting in
front of the fireplace. Happy days!

Any way, I hope you can get your boiler fixed tomorrow.

Hope he gets to you and gets it sorted out too Kaz xx

We only have a fire here and believe me, it gets cold here too. Very cold last night, down to 1C and having rubbish wood means the fire won't stay in over night either  We use a gas water heater.

Back in England, our old house was the same, until the last few years, when we put in central heating. Regular winters night was a blanket hung over a couple of chairs to stop the draught from the ill-fitting doors, fire roaring away and all of us in about 4 layers.

Some winters, there was even ice in the toilet bowl :o :(

Well the engineer is here, so I hope we'll be warm again soon. We woke to a heavy frost, but blissfully warm showers thanks to the immersion heater! I didn't want to get out
