Vocal Voices

In all my years and with the many different hobs and cookers I have used not once, not ever, has any one of them turned itself ON. They just sit there in the kitchen waiting for me, or somebody, to flick the switch, press the button or strike a match. They are ornaments. They DO NOT turn themselves ON.

So why is it that I cannot rest things like papers, books, boxes etc on one that is OFF, even for the shortest of time, when I know I will not be turning it ON nor leaving the room? I was sorting some papers the other day and had to bring in a chair to rest them on.

What irrational foibles do you have?

Oh dear, you wouldn't like it at my house then Frank... I have a glass hob and because I have so little counter space I use the hob loads as a surface. So I have a tea towel over it whenever it's not in use; it's too loud otherwise

I don't think I have any 'irrational foibles' as you call them, I do have a few OCD things such knowing my front door is locked, but still getting up again out of bed to double check and then I'm wide awake. but maybe that is a foible?

If I started to list my "eccentricities" on here, I'd exceed the forum's band-width!

Checking all plugs are off before leaving the house is my particular bugbear. And checking at night that the outside security light really has gone off. Of course, when I go out to check it has, it turns itself back on again ........

You must be my BIL's alter ego.... he unplugs and turns everything off because they could be a fire hazard... except the the fridge and freezer, They are exempt! What?

A loud hob when not in use, with a tea towel to dampen the sound. Now I really am confused.

Checking and then rechecking that I have turned the tap off.

I think I must have the complete opposite of OCD as I never do anything like this! CBAness probably, too idle to worry about it

I think that advancing years is largely the reason why we have these spasms of having to check whether we have or have not done something.
I often have to get out of bed, to check whether I turned something off for the night, and every time the trip proves to be quite unnecessary.
My short-term memory is really a laughing matter now, but this is compensated to a certain extent by my ability to carry out necessary duties
automatically, without the need to even think about them.

I'm terrible for checking and re-checking that the doors are locked when I go out. I think it's because I'm thinking of other things as I leave the house, automatically lock the door and then get half way down the garden and think "Did I lock the door?" so back I go to check!

Very few to virtually no foibles. Then again my memory is so bad I just go along with whatever the state of play is...
