Narrow squeak!

I had an incredibly narrow escape in town today! I came out of M&S to cross to the bank, and a police van shot right in front of me, almost mowing me down! So close that I stepped back, from the draught!

They hit the siren then, but it had been silent up to that point. It's a fully pedestrianised area, usually any council vehicles or ambulances edge down it really slowly. Several people stopped to ask me if I was ok, but I was just so stunned I carried on to the bank, and didn't start to feel wobbly until I was halfway up the road out of town, on my way up to D's :? It was incredibly irresponsible driving, kids run about on there all the time, and at the speed they were going......

I have contacted the police, via their FB page, and they've informed me of their complaints procedure. I am seriously considering - at the very least the siren should have been blaring to warn people :(

Certainly a narrow escape Kaz. xxx

You really should make a strong complaint - registered letter - and give them X working days to reply.

Police vehicles are subject to posted speed limits the same as other vehicles. If they are to break the speed limit they have to be attending an incident AND have their flashing lights and sirens in operation. It is ultimately at the driver's discretion, but if they are involved in an accident they are breaking the law.

At the very least it shows poor judgement to be driving at speed in a pedestrian precinct.
