And what a fabulous time we had! We only really stopped to sleep (and watch new Roseanne!) and were walking around 15 miles a day we had bright sunshine most of the time but it was cold and there was still snow on the ground in places, even on the boardwalk at Coney Island.
Highlights have to be the Freedom Tower, you speed up in a lift to floor 102 and then watch a short film and at the end the screen rises and the city is there in front of you. Breathtakingly stunning. The 9/11 Museum and Memorial Pools were incredibly moving. The museum, although busy, was so very quiet; people were walking around in silence. Neither of us realised that the foundations of the original buildings are down there and you then realise when you see these that the Memorial Pools are above you (the museum is underground). The horror of that day never goes away.
Tiffany's was quite an experience, a really lovely one though! I found a ring that I liked, John looked worried because there weren't prices on anything and we were taken to a table where we were given a drink of our choice while I tried it on
I took John into Trump Tower, he'd never been in before. We were both needing a warm drink but decided that all we were going to spend in there was a penny I'd like to know just how much it's costing the US taxpayer to protect that tacky monstrosity (the building, not the President). Armed police inside the building and the street at the side was closed off with concrete blocks and several police cars were parked within with police patrolling the street on foot, ready to shoot.
Other than that we made a repeat visit to the Friends building, the apartment building shown on the show. We visited Brooklyn a couple of times. Coney Island and Brighton Beach too. Lower East Side, Greenwich Village. Central Park. Top Of The Rock. Empire State Building at night - I think that was my 6th time. The Highline. CBGBs which is now an expensive clothes shop but has retained the original walls from when it was a venue, it was so interesting to see.
We came home and the house was still in one piece, it was clean and tidy and the fridge was well stocked! We had a slight dog care emergency on the morning we were leaving. Joe checked his work hours just before he left for college as they're posted on a Friday and he saw that he'd got a shift on the Tuesday, straight after college, so it meant that he'd be out of the house from 8am until 11pm. Thankfully I was able to get Tom on the phone and he said he'd come over on the Tuesday to sit with Billy for a while. As it happened, he came on the Monday evening and he's still here now. He picked Joe up from college on Tuesday and took him to work, cooked him a veggie curry for when he'd finished and picked him up too. Joe's got an early shift in the morning so he said that he'd take him as John's currently on a flight to Belfast for a work trip for a few days.
It's good to be back, but we're already wondering where we can go next
