Tomato purée HELP please.

Neigbour (used to play footie with Michael) just had his dad round from the allotment with a huge box of tomatoes so I have ended up with a big bag 1.5 to 2 kilos worth!

I cannot eat them all in one go so I was thinking of making purée or passata.

All the recipes I have found are a bit American and look like a lot of faffing about.

Do any of you have something simple and easy.... or alternatives?

The only other thing I can think of is to make up a large batch of basic unflavoured tomato and onion sauce for pizzas, lasagne, bolognaise, c-con-c.

I would just make a very basic sauce - sweat the toms down in a little olive oil, some fresh basil, then puree? Or unpureed?

Thanks Kaz.

I have given up on the purée. For what it costs it is not worth the effort.

I am just sweating down some chopped onions and once the toms are prepped I will make a basic seasoned but unflavoured sauce to use as a base for other dishes. I will portion it in to zipper bags and freeze them.

Good ideas do not always work out.  :o

It will be nice to have the sauce when you need it though :) I've done the same when we've had a glut in D's greenhouse 8-)

Whilst I was making it I was thinking 'good timing'.

They will be sat there in the freezer ready to go as the colder weather starts, so making up a c-con-c or spagbol will be done in no time. Cracking idea you had there. 8-) 8-)

Another thing.... when I was looking on the Internet I discovered the WI site. It has some brilliant recipes. :Hi: :Hi: :Hi:
