Local Co-op robbed.

Thursday evening last week.

Young Nat was on when a man with a machete walked in and told her to open the till.
She could not do it as it only opens on a purchase so he slapped her with the side of the blade, jumped over the counter and used it to jemmy the till open.

He got away with the takings but thankfully Nat was unharmed.

The Co-op has now put a guard on the door.... a bit late, eh?

It is coming to something when they have to put a guard on a Co-op though.
I'm glad Nat wasn't harmed.

We're used to seeing security guards in supermarkets, hospitals, even in the centro de saude

But always nasty when it's on your door-step.

Hope Nat is okay.

I will get the lowdown from my neighbour who is a supervisor there.

Nat has only been working for a few weeks, since college broke up. She wasn't physically injured, but the experience might have put her off coming back.

Poor girl :( - I do hope she will get counselling if she needs it; that's not a pleasant thing for anyone to experience. And please tell me she wasn't working on her own?

There's some rotten buggers about, aren't there.

It's about time the powers that be made the punishments for crime more off-putting.
When criminals are convicted now they only get sent to the equivalent of a holiday camp.

Ria, Nat was on the tills, the other worker was re-stocking and had gone in the back for more stuff.

He must have been watching and waiting for his opportunity. He had a hoody and his face was covered but hopefully one of the many CCTV cameras we have about will have picked him up before he prepared for his attack.

Aggers, you are right, scum like him will not be bothered about getting caught.

Thoughts for that young lass - awful experience, and thank goodness she wasn't seriously hurt.

Our local Co-op in Sutton Coldfield always employed an afternoon / evening security guard from way back. I think it was initially a response to the two local secondary schools who started turning out serial shop-lifters from 3:45 every day.

Poor girl! :( I hope she's ok Frank x

Plenty of our shops have security guards, but then Gloucester has a well-known knife problem, as well as more than the usual number of mentally ill homeless :? :(
