OK, answer me this.

Making soup from scratch and when it simmers (boils) you dip in a spoon to have a taste, no problem - fine.

Spill some of the taster on your hand and it is agony. :roll:

That is what I have just done and it blurdy hurts like hell. :shock:

How? Why?

Got to do with the surfaces in your mouth being less sensitive than your skin, surely?

I would be the opposite, have to carry the taster spoon to the sink by the open window, then blow to cool it.
But I could stick a finger into the pan :lol:
