Smart Meters ....

Who's got one, who wants one but can't get one, and who wouldn't touch one with a bargepole?

If you've got one, does it work, can you understand it, has it saved you any money and was it worth it? :D

We haven't got one and never been offered one (probably because we've got separate gas and electric providers and we're on standard variable tariffs (yes, I know :P ) but we're sort of coming round to the idea of it …..

We've just ditched British Gas as our annual boiler inspection / servicing people as they've hiked the renewal premiums up by over 30% in two years, (so much for must be 30 years loyalty  ) and we'll be going with a local independent guy in future, so I suppose it's got me thinking about saving a bit more on the other utilities …....

Haven't got one but have applied for one online and been told they're not available in my area yet.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure about them so not too fussed if I get one or not. I do like the idea of never having to give another meter reading (because I always forget).

I look after the NPower account for my parents and had an email yesterday informing me that their smart meter will be fitted on September 6th. One hasn't been requested yet NPower have taken it on themselves to decide to install one. I've cancelled the appointment.

We haven't got one because we switch suppliers for a better deal whenever we can and I believe that a smart meter doesn't switch with you?

Yes, that's my understanding as well. There are Mark 1 meters and Mark 2 Meters. The Mark 1 meters usually don't "switch" if you change your supplier, but they've built so many of them, they are still, even now, rolling them out regardless ....

Whether or not you can insist on an updated Mark 2 Meter, I don't know.

We have got one as at the time I thought you had to agree.
I don`t really understand it and it doesn't appear to have saved us any money.
It is a bit frightening to see the money go up as you turn different appliances on so I don`t bother now.

It wouldn't influence our usage so I see little point :?
