One of today's headlines....

"Fraud costs the NHS £1.29 billion a YEAR as officials say the stolen money could be enough to pay for 40,000 nurses or 5,000 new ambulances."

This is just one example of the amount of dishonesty that is becoming the norm in all walks of life today.

What is causing this crime wave?

Any suggestions?

I agree, there are managers for absolutely everything; everyone has a fancy job title, same in schools.

Here's an example of how money is wasted in the NHS. John came home from work today and said you'll never believe this. A fella in his dept, Bob, is a bit of a hypochondriac and very dramatic. His wife is just the same.
She had a nosebleed yesterday morning so he took her to A&E where they sat waiting to be seen for hours, long after the nosebleed had stopped.

In a report the NHS Counter Fraud Authority has revealed fraud is costing the NHS nearly £1.3 billion each year. Set up in November last year it announced the damning numbers in its first annual report.

Patients are conning the health service out of around £341.7 million
Its own staff are cheating it of £94.2 million.
Around £111 million is being lost to local pharmacies
Dentists are defrauding around £126.1 million
Opticians £79 million
GP surgeries £88 million.
And £35 million to people claiming healthcare in England which they're not entitled to

Other fraudulent activities involve the pensions of NHS staff, student bursaries, and legal claims

The headlines from the Mail, Times, AP, BBC etc. are click bait - it is not us plebs doing it.

About £900 million is fraud from within. This smacks of poor and low quality management.

What are the auditors doing?
Another example is crutches and zimmer frames which can be re-used but are scrapped.
And the amount of paper and postage for simple items which includes multi langauge leaflets most of which is binned without being read.

That's shocking!

Sandra my mum in law says the same about the disposable medical equipment - in her days of hospital nursing everything was metal, and sterilized in a machine called an autoclave, housed in the sluice room!
