Me

Been a busy day and lots of stuff going on and thinking about what the next project will be and my mind wandered - as it does ;)

Grumpy had tinned bacalhau for dinner, with steamed veg. He was also supposed to have some potatoes with it - some lovely little one's, in their skins.

I forgot them

This will be mentioned for many years to come.

Along with the time I made him a coffee, put sugar in and then forgot the coffee    But that was many years ago ;) 8-)

Salt cod Ossie.

Nasty, horrible stuff, but the Portuguese love it. There are 365 recipes for it - one for every day of the week

It's salted and dried, then cut with a saw in the supermarket. Stinks too

To cook it, you have to put it in water, and the normal thing is, every time you walk past it, change the water. Takes about 48 hours to do it properly. Then cook it, boiled, steamed, in the oven with other stuff, like chickpeas, cream. Although the cream you get here is nothing like the cream you get in England.

Bacalhau a bras or Bacalhau com natas is normal for Christmas Ever over here.

Ah - bingo!

That reminded me there was a "Dinner Tonight" menu suggestion in The Times just today, which they called "Portuguese Fish and Chips". Just dug it out and reading the small print, I see they call it Bacalhau a bras!

Ingredients: 2 thick cod fillets, 2/3 tbsp. Maldon sea salt, 1 onion, 1garlic clove, 3tbsp olive oil, 300gm frozen French fries, 15 pitted black olives, 25g flat leaf parsley.
60 minutes to salt the fish and prepare, 20 minutes to cook.

Must be an Anglicized version of what you have - the person writing the piece admits, though, she forgot the eggs!

The Portuguese love frozen chips  You can buy them, in the little supermarkets by weight  Just pour out how many you want into a bag and pay for them like that. Same for frozen peas, other veg.

A lot of the older people, don't have freezers.
