The fires this year

are just as bad as any other year  :cute:

BUT and it's a big BUT, the authorities are throwing everything at them, as soon as they start. We saw that with the fire near us last month.

There are a couple of biggies oop north and 6 aircraft are at each. One is near Lisbon, so easy, but the other one is in the middle of forest/scrub land and very difficult to get at.

But it's good to know they're more on top of it this year :D

We're mostly farming country Ossie, so everything is cut back or down. Since we've been here, 3 years, there's only been one big fire and that was a prat of a German

But there is a huge eucy forest near us, always a worry but they are very good at clearing the under growth.

This year, there is central command, so making it all a lot better :Hi:

What do you do in the middle of a dry spell on moorland?
In west Yorkshire earlier this year, a family of the local walking dead decided to have a bbq on the moor...
It took firefighters from all over the north days to put the resulting fire out.
Probably not on your scale Jan but bad enough.

Yes, we do have 'em. :o

Thankfully most proper forest fires are weather related - lightning strikes - and the responses have to be coordinated. Well done Portugal.

Yes, we have that happen on Cannock Chase despite there being signs warning about the dangers of bbqs being lit, there were a few big fires caused by them last Summer.

On the common behind us we have a problem with the local little darlings lighting fires.

Two rather large fires, started within 3 minutes of each other

Villages are being evacuated

4 bombeiros have been injured so far.
