and sorry for not replying sooner; you asked if my chickens had names :D They do, so please meet:

Grey is Gracie (Bluebell)
White is Jenny (White Leghorn / White Ranger) - she lays perfect white eggs
Black & White is Roxy (Light Sussex)
Black is Cynthia (Blackrock)

they do have amazing personalities and I'm so pleased I got them.

:D :D :D I watched a programme on BBC 4 last night with Jimmy Wotisface (Jamie & Jimmy) looking at the lives of chickens.

The ones he studied were rescue birds and their 'nurse', another Ria  , said that they all had personalities, that there definitely was a 'pecking order' and that they were extremely intelligent and quick on the uptake.

Some of the tests they did showed exactly that. Even after thousands of years of domestication they still retained a lot of their 'wild' instincts, which is rare with farm animals.

Did I mention that I am already in love with Gracie. :D :D

They are lovely, they do have real personalities. My Tallulah was a leghorn, really flighty she was, is Jenny? My friend over the road has a Cynthia, called Annie.

I do miss my girls. Yours are lovely Ria

Shell - :D yup Jenny definitely is the most flighty of the lot.
Ossie - I get anything between 1 and 4 a day; three is fairly average.
Frank - my next lot will be rescue birds; but they can be really difficult with so many health issues that I thought it best to start with 'regular' chickens and learn what I need to know before exposing myself to a lot of potential heart ache with the rescues.
