My little old lady.

80-odd years young was about to go out with her daughter when she noticed a paper had fallen off the hallway table. She bent to pick it up and just kept going - bump!

She broke her hip and has had a replacement done. I have been in to hospital to see her and after only two days they have her shuffling about on a zimmer, mind you she is well spaced out on the morphine! :D

She is doing so well they are sending her to a dedicated recovery unit near to home where she is expected to stay for four weeks.

She's very lucky that they treated her so quickly, and did a good job.

I hope she recovers quickly.

And best wishes for a speedy recovery from me as well. The dedicated recovery unit is a fab idea - sounds similar to what my mom had and it made the world of difference and really gave mom the confidence to move about on the hip.

Thanks everyone. I am going to see her at the recovery unit (convalescent home?) on Thursday so will see how she gets on there first hand. I'll pass on your good wishes, she'll like that. :D

I remember the days when after surgery or sprains or breaks the thinking was to immobilise. The new thinking is to get active, which makes sense. Get the blood flowing, get new oxygen and nutrients in, and get the repair on the way.
