KINDLE HELP for Jan

She has a problem, but it's on the Computer board so I have put it here for you Kindle whizz kids. :D ;)

Jan wrote:Can some-one please talk me through a kindle. Gently and in easy to understand - cos I is a bit fick when it comes to this sort of stuff.

I've read all my books, most of the library and I'm going to have to give in and get one.

I would like one I can read when it's bright and I also understand (maybe wrongly) that I have to choose a genre.

Can I by one here and have it in English? Or should I buy in England?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Muito obrigado.

I have no idea as I use my tablet.

I’ve got a Paperwhite, I love it. It’s not like looking at a screen, it does look like paper and therefore you don’t get any glare and it also has a back light so that you can read in the dark and you can also adjust the text size.

As for where to buy, I’m not sure how that would work re downloads.

What do you mean about genre?

Jan, I bought myself one before the summer holiday in Crete... I got what they call the "All-New Kindle" vs the Paperwhite and there isn't all that much difference. When I got it it was a lot cheaper than the Paperwhite but just looked on Amazon and the Paperwhite is on special (£30 off).

You will need to have an amazon account to access the books; and then you can also choose to subscribe to Kindle unlimited that allows you to download as many books as you want, but only have 10 at a time on your device. So you download 10 for a reduced cost (quite a few are free), and then when you've finished reading it you 'return' it and then download another. Cost of that would be £3.99 per month

You need to have access to wifi to download but once downloaded you can read the books wherever you want

Jan, if you access Amazon are you directed to the UK version or one local to you? I’m just wondering if there’d be any restrictions on downloading books from the UK site.

I have a Kindle Fire. It was cheap as chips, compared to the cost of a laptop or smart phone, and I can do anything I need on it - access to the net, Facebook, email etc and read lots of books, many of which are free or only 99p from Amazon. We bought Doreen one and she wouldn't be without it now :)
