Out there, It is wet ...

Postby TheOstrich » 06 Jan 2020, 14:40

It is cold.
It is miserable.

And yet ….

Viewed from our kitchen window, just inside the country park, on the grass, there are 8 folk of assorted ages, dressed in heavy weather gear and cagoules, all armed with Nordic poles, apparently being instructed on how to ski ....

Only the British, eh?

Ossie, I'm with Saundra on this, my guess is that what you actually witnessed was a group learning how to do Nordic walking - think cross-country skiing but without the skis.

It's a full body fitness regime and requires quite a level of shoulder-arm-hip-leg co-ordination with good posture. It is not as easy as it looks and you can do some real joint and muscle damage if you get out of sync.

If it's not done correctly, WM is right, serious damage can be done.

Still think it looks silly though ;)

Yes I did Saundra and Kaz!!! :D :D Only stopped because the weekly walk clashed with my now fav Aquafit, great workout though!! And do-able in all weathers and terrains :D And because you are 'propelled' by the poles, you move so flippin' fast, but without really noticing!!

Oh right!

And yes, they were at it again this morning, about a dozen of them stretching and twirling their poles before heading off purposely into the park. Must be the "in" thing at the moment.
