received an email from our letting agent that the apartment is due for it's annual ECIR (electrical) check which will be carried out on the 16th this month between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. could take 3-5 hours.
No mention of should we leave the property while this is done or if said person will have PPE of any kind as he/she will have been to other properties.

How /why can they enter when we are not allowed to even have family/visitors at this time?

I have replied to them with theses comments -look forward to their reply

I had a survey done on my house when in lockdown housing office had the whole estate done
I just sat in the front room
You could sit in,your garden or another room it doesn't take long for a electric check to be done

While lockdown has been on we have had additional sockets intalled in the garage. The electrician could work in the garage and then connected the new wiring to the consumer unit in the cupboard in the hall. When he had finished we spoke to him. He was outside two metres away and we were inside in the hall.

Have had a wall clock returnde and hung on the wall after it has been serviced. When the man arrived with the clock, we opened the front door and sat in the lounge while he fitted it and made sure it worked correctly. It has a Westiminster chime and he had to turn the hands through twelve hours stopping at each quarter. He wa wearinga mask and gloves.
Not had any other visitors.

It's very difficult. We have had quite a few visitors in lockdown.

The plumber who repaired our toilets was masked throughout, but I was within the 2 metres of him at times discussing the problems.
The guy who repaired our solar thermal system wasn't masked and most of his work was inside the house. We left him to it, but we did have some contact, signing forms and the like.
The guy who replaced our guttering wasn't masked but he was working outside so we had minimal contact.
Our lady painter who is about to start her 3rd week - well, she offered to mask up, but we said that we were easy about it, it was entirely up to her. In the end she didn't. Yes we have had a good rattle at times with her over a cuppa tea, and we have (largely) maintained the 2 metre rule when doing so, but not, for example, when we were looking at paint charts together.

We are philosophical about it, TBH. If we get it, we get it. Life has got to go on. You can't hide under a barrel forever ....

As Saundra said, I wouldn't have thought your electrical check would be 3-5 hours, Vic. All they have to do is put a magic gizmo up each of your sockets in turn and record the output on a form, yes?

I had both gas and electric checks done last week.

The man phoned to say he had arrived so I went and unlocked the door then went back to my little office and told him to come in. I stayed put while he did the checks then he shouted that he was finished and was leaving. I watched him out of the window to his van then went and locked the door - he did have PPE.

A bit of a clean up on places he might have touched and all was done. Life has to go on and there are ways and means.
