Good morning.

Furnace hot.

I remember my first June here (2004) and thinking what the hell have I moved to, heat wise. But I've become used to it and just carry on doing my normal things no matter how hot it gets. Or just plain daft. Yes, that's it.

Going for a walk shortly then back for a swim.

I've been watching old re-runs of Man About the House and yesterday's was where Chrissie accepted Norman's marriage proposal (aawww) which means today's final ever episode is the wedding.

I'm only telling you this as I said I'd go and pick Jacob up today as he's coming over and he asked if I could get there around 11am. I said no as that's when the wedding is!

Don's going instead.

We're going out for lunch. It feels the right thing to do after a wedding.

I've done all of the watering, as some-one was still in bed

I've got some ironing to do and also making a favas for tonight. Grumpy has all that wood to play with He's going to make a pair of doors to hide the washing machine. Will look really posh

An early swim - or maybe two, in this heat - and a lazy day, once I've got my work stuff out of the way.

Well definitely not warm here, overcast, drizzle and just meh. I'm about to head off to work; first time using the train since lockdown - mask is at the ready as is my handgel.

Grey and cloudy here too. Another fun filled day awaits here, the highlight of which will be printing off a polite letter to the people across the road asking them to reduce the height of their conifers; I don't expect that they will reply in writing.
Fed up with the lockdown or whatever the slogan is now. I'm not slagging the govt off, it's unknown times. But people haven't been able to go to the hairdressers, go to a football match, have a meal out or go to the pub, visit the theatre, go on a foreign holiday, see relatives - I just think that everyone is longing for a return to something like the old normal, and the sooner the better.

Good morning, all. Grey and drizzly here, and still cold although the wind has died down.

The penultimate day of the painting operation; J. thinks she will be finished mid-afternoon tomorrow. It has certainly been one way of spending lockdown, and I dread to think what the final bill will be! Yesterday she used a sealant over the anaglypta in the living room so she can paint on top of it (it's the only room which had anaglypta and the only one she hasn't needed to steam the old wallpaper off. The fumes of the sealant, being a solvent, permeated the house and sent the carbon monoxide detector into total meltdown, a hissy fit from which it still hasn't recovered. I've temporarily had to take a battery out. Apparently solvents are a well-known cause of a "false alarm", and we both woke up this morning, so I don't think it's anything more sinister!

To while away the time (we're in limbo with no telly this week), today has been soup preparation day; Ossie had peeled and chopped the onions and garlic and Mrs O is doing an assembly job in the kitchen. All the rest of the veg we prepared yesterday. It's cabbage, courgette, pepper, celery, chilli and leeks, and this week's mystery ingredient (Ossie always sees what's on price reduction at the supermarket ) - trimmed green beans! The chilli is out of the freezer (homegrown last year) and likely to send the CO2 detector into another fit of apoplexy judging by its potency!

Back in our Somerset days, Crommers, we had a "polite" letter from neighbours about the height of the bushes in our front garden, except it wasn't polite, and they threatened us with the Council. They had tolerated them for years and only wrote when we had put our house on the market. We complied, of course - it was a fair request - but it left a bit of a sour taste, as we had never particularly got on with them anyway (curtain-twitchers, nearly as bad as Ossie!)

Good morning all, it’s quite dull here and still breezy but not as bad as yesterday.

I had a 90+ minute walk with Bill first thing, the washing is now on the line and the kitchen floor has just been steamed. I’ve got to go to the post office shortly but need to dry my hair first. I think I’ll hoover first though.

We put the old dishwasher outside late last night in the hope that a scrap man might come past some time this week - it was gone before 7am

Ossie, I’m useless in heat. I think I have some kind of reverse SAD.

Jan well done Grumpy, it must be lovely to have a handy man about. The nearest E get's to DIY is changing a plug Like Ossie we always have to find someone to do all our decorating.
Crommers sorry lockdown is getting you down, things probably won't get back to the old normal for quite some time, but hopefully the new normal will make thing easier soon.

Well we waited until just after 4pm and then drove into town to tackle Boots. There were people about, but it was really quiet so wasn't too bad. Only one person in front of me so it didn't take long to be served, but then the fun started. I was assured the lady I spoke to on Friday did ring back but said my home phone was engaged, not true, I checked when we got home and the last call recorded was 21 June!!! They also have my mobile and she definitely didn't ring that, again no missed calls showing. Apparently she was trying to let me know it would be out for delivery, but if she had rung she would know I have an answer machine so she could have left a message. Anyway I pointed out it was all a fat lot of good as I was in the store and therefore wasn't home to take delivery and was almost out of meds. In the end the pharmacist decided to dispense my meds while I was there and asked me to tell the delivery bod to return them to the store. She said they are in the process of updating their computer system so to allow two weeks for delivery going forward!! What really annoyed me was no apology. I'm paid up for delivery until next March, so will see how it goes and if I get any more hassle will change chemists then.

No plans for today, really really should do some housework, we'll see............

Empty is the word I'd use

I caught the 9.57am train and usually that one is jam packed as it's the first fast services once off-peak time starts. When we pulled into Waterloo, we were four people in my carriage (3rd) and definitely more people up in the front carriage. I was planning on walking from Waterloo across the bridge to work but it was raining and I didn't have a raincoat with me so did the usual and caught the train from Waterloo East to Charing X . That train was much busier - about 20 or so people in the carriage; but then (same as with the other train) it was the front carriage which is where most people would sit as they're closest to the exit.

Everyone was wearing a facemask, but a few were wearing it below their nose - but they all wore glasses and from experience I know that glasses and masks don't mix; they steam up.

South Eastern (the line that runs from Waterloo East to Charing Cross) has hand sanitising stations by the main ticket barriers both at Waterloo and Charing Cross - South Western didn't have anything.

All in all, definitely not a bad experience and I don't think I'll be driving into London again in a hurry - the train was rather pleasant

My niece,was getting married in May very classy wedding of course it was cancelled then rebooked for September
Now there are new rules and they arnt good father can't walk you down the isle
Wash hands before and after exchanging rings
No more than 30guests from 2house holds
No loud singing
