Our chief medical officer

Some of you might have seen my FB post mentioning a Dr Tony Holohan today. He is our chief medical officer, and has been amazing throughout the last four months, calm, giving us facts and figures without drama, and no politics, answering press questions as honestly as he could. He announced last night (in the same calm manner) that he is stepping back now to be with his family as his wife was placed on palliative care last weekend. His steady guidance has led us through the past months while all the time, his family was going through a nightmare of their own. I think Ireland is heartbroken for him.

How brave people can be in the face of immense sorrow.

I have been thinking more about this and Dr Tony Holohan must have know about his wife's illness yet he carried on with his work for his country. That takes courage, fortitude and dedication few of us have.

The man deserves a reward.

She was first diagnosed with a rare blood cancer in 2012 and apparently has been ill a lot in the last couple of years. I completely agree with you, WM, his strength and courage are an inspiration - and people won’t wear masks  One very interesting thing is that many people must have known about his wife’s illness and not a whisper was leaked.
