I knew this day would come...

My hairdresser phoned this evening (his wife cuts Edward’s hair) to tell us that they are retiring at the end of the month  He has been doing my hair for 40 years. They had it all planned, then COVID came along and when the lockdown ended, they felt they wanted to help all their customers who needed haircuts and colours. We’re delighted for them, they are younger than we are and really deserve to have a full and happy retirement. Plus he told me that they are to become grandparents for the first time, which is very special - their son, their only child, was very ill with leukaemia in his late teens/early 20s, so that is very exciting.

How will I start again with a new hairdresser :? :? :?

Scissors, a comb?

It is such a shame that these small - one person businesses of all types - are suffering the most. My ex SIL is a mobile hairdresser. They tend to keep us going so much more than the Primarks and Nexts of this world. A happy retirement to them.

Oh dear Osc

I'm just glad my hair is dead straight and sun-kissed. Grumpy can do over the shoulder cutting

It's more than just "the hairdresser" isn't it Osc - after 40 years I bet you know more about each other than you realise and are actually friends?

But happy for them that they are able to retire and are young and healthy enough to enjoy it; and the news of the grandchild for them - very special indeed.

I would be bereft if Shereen stopped hairdressing, so I understand how you feel! :? That's lovely news about the baby for their family though :)

That is so true, we talk about music, swop books, chat about local stuff. He has seen me through so many hairstyles, watched me go grey and finally got the chance to colour my hair just over 12 years ago, having given up on persuading me to do it about 20 years previously
