Dinner tonight

not often I can post a "dinner tonight" post, given my dinner so often consists of a packet (or two) of crisps and a glass of wine :lol: :lol: :lol:

tonight though I made stuffed marrow and super delicious it was too; admittedly it took a lot longer to cook than I thought it would but it was worth the wait. I filled it with a bolognese sauce that I'd made the other day and for the last 15 minutes topped it all with a grated cheese / breadcrumb mix went perfectly golden and crispy.

Still got the other half of the marrow in the fridge so will be repeating this for dinner on Wednesday I think, but may think of a different filling just to try out various options.

So happy to take on board any marrow filling suggestions ;-)

Chicken pie, green beans, broccoli and carrots. It was really nice. :)
I hope no one makes any vulgar suggestions for filling a marrow! The mods are on high alert... :lol: :lol:

Take the marrow, squash, pumpkin or other similar abomination and scoop out the centre then throw that it away. Fill the remaining skin with empty crisp packets, used paper towels and empty yoghurt pots and other 'stuff'. Wrap in newspaper and throw that away. Sorted.

Or you could fill it with Ossie's sugar free Alpen and then bin it. ;) :lol: :lol:

I used to make minced beef and onion with added .mushroom s bit old fashioned now it was before Bolognese sauce was invented

Mash, salad and cold meats.

Not sure how a curry mince would taste like in a marrow :?

Kaz and Saundra, any appreciation I might have had about marrow went out the window on the Halloweens of my childhood.

Once we had made the lanterns the gloop inside was turned into soup and mash and we got some sort every day for days on end - chop, chips and a side of gloop; bangers, mash and gravy - and gloop; stew, spuds and gloop. About the only time we didn't get any was at breakfast..... but I bet mum did think about it. ;) :shock: :lol: :lol: :lol:

From a psychological POV it is interesting how what happened in our formative years defines out attitudes in later life.

Food wise mackerel is my favourite fish. Dad was a fisherman and it was his favourite and we had it many different ways. I am not keen on lamb, it was always fatty and gristly cuts; and my veg only needs to be shown a hot pan of water for it to be cooked perfectly - dad again. We rarely had cakes, biscuits or sweets in, and that's still the case, but we did have puddings. I still like custard with anything including C'mas cake / pudding. :roll: :o :o :lol:
